May is a month of renewal. The days grow longer, the forests of the Pacific Northwest burst with fresh color, and the world seems to slow down just enough for us to appreciate the beauty around us. Here at Cascadia Pens, May is also a time to reflect on craftsmanship, heritage, and the stories that connect us to the past. Every pen I create begins as a simple block of wood or a swirl of handcrafted resin. With patience and care, that raw material is transformed into something meaningful—an instrument designed to preserve thoughts, record memories, and celebrate life’s important moments. There is something timeless about putting pen to paper. Long before computers and smartphones, the written word helped shape history. Letters were penned, documents were signed, and ideas were shared that changed the world forever. One of the most significant documents in American history, the Declaration of Independence, was signed in 1776. In 2026, the United States will celebrate its 250th birthday—known as the Semi quincentennial. This nationwide commemoration, led by America250, honors the signing of the Declaration and invites Americans to reflect on the nation’s past while looking toward the future. As this historic milestone approaches, May feels like the perfect time to consider the importance of preserving our own stories. A handwritten journal, a heartfelt letter, or a signature on a meaningful document all become part of our personal history. The tools we use to create those moments matter. A handcrafted pen is more than an accessory—it is a companion for capturing ideas, dreams, and memories that deserve to last. At Cascadia Pens, each pen is individually turned by hand in my workshop in the Pacific Northwest. No two are exactly alike. Every grain pattern, every resin swirl, and every polished finish reflects the belief that everyday objects can be both practical and deeply personal. As America prepares to celebrate 250 years of freedom, innovation, and resilience, I’m reminded that history is written one word at a time. Perhaps this May is the perfect moment to begin your own story. Write a letter to someone you love. Start a journal. Sign an important document. Or choose a handcrafted pen that feels worthy of the words you have yet to write. At Cascadia Pens, I’m honored to create pens that help preserve those moments—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come. Because history isn’t only found in textbooks. It is written by hand.
